Best monday.com Apps for Time-Based Automations (2026)

Published October 14, 2026 · 8 min read · By Lucas Milanez, who builds Precise Triggers

TL;DR: monday's native "when date arrives" runs at one fixed hour you pick for every item, and its offsets are whole days. To fire at the time stored on each item, or a few minutes or hours before it, you need an app or an external tool. As of October 2026: Advanced Time Triggers is the safe default if a delay of up to 15 minutes is fine (marketplace listing, any monday action, recurrence, cheap for a few automations). Automato Date Automations is worth a look if you also need date arithmetic like "5 business days before". Precise Triggers (mine) fits short lead times, tight SLAs and subitems, where minutes matter. Automation Scheduler does a different job: scheduled board-wide sweeps.

Full disclosure: I build Precise Triggers, so read this with that in mind. Everything about the other apps comes from their own listings, docs and blog posts, linked in the sources at the bottom and checked on October 14, 2026. Where a vendor doesn't document something, I say "not documented" instead of guessing. If something is wrong or has changed, tell me and I'll fix it.

The problem these apps solve

A monday Date column can hold a time (say, a client call at 14:30). monday's own date automations don't use that time: they run once, at the hour you pick in the automation, for every item on the board. An item due at 14:30 gets its 09:00 reminder five and a half hours early; one due at 08:40 gets it 20 minutes late. Offsets are whole days, so there's no native "2 hours before". The details are in why monday date automations ignore the time in your column.

So the question behind "monday reminder app" or "time-based automation app" is usually: which tool fires at each item's own time, how close to that time, and what can it do when it fires?

monday native "when date arrives"

Good at: it's already in monday, there is nothing extra to install, and it can run any native action. If "on the due date at 9:00" or "1 day before" is enough, you don't need an app at all.

Limits: one fixed hour for every item, whole-day offsets only, and formula columns can't trigger it. Workflow Boost puts it plainly in its own guide: "Native automations ignore the time component in date columns."

Pick it if: the time of day doesn't matter, only the day. More on why native date automations seem to fire at the wrong time.

Advanced Time Triggers (Workflow Boost)

Good at: it adds "date and time arrives" triggers to monday's own automation builder, so any monday action can follow, including integrations. It has before/after offsets in minutes, hours or days and recurrence by nth weekday of the month, quarter or year. It's listed in the marketplace, and its pricing counts automations rather than runs, with a free plan for one automation. For a few automations across many items it's the cheapest option here.

Limits: by its own description it checks every 15 minutes, so a 15:07 trigger runs at 15:15. A "15 minutes before the call" reminder can arrive with only a few minutes to spare. Subitems aren't mentioned in its listing or guide.

Pick it if: up to 15 minutes of delay is acceptable, you want recurrence, or you need a monday action other than status, notification or webhook. I compare it with my app in detail in Advanced Time Triggers vs Precise Triggers.

Automato Date Automations (automagical.work)

Good at: date logic. Its listing describes pushing a due date to the next Friday, pulling it back 5 business days with custom day-skipping, snapping it to the second Tuesday of next month, and spotting double bookings across status, people and dropdown columns. It also has time-based triggers: "Fire a notification 10 minutes before a meeting starts, or automatically assign a team leader 1 hour before a job kicks off." When a date has no time, it fires that long before midnight. It's listed in the marketplace, and the entry price is low.

Limits: its listing and setup guide don't say how precisely time triggers fire, whether they can start from subitem dates, or what an "op" is. It's newer and smaller than Advanced Time Triggers (54 installs since October 2025, no reviews yet). Test the timing on a real board before relying on it for short reminders.

Pick it if: you need business-day math or conflict checks together with "X minutes before" reminders, and want one app for both.

Precise Triggers (the one I build)

Good at: firing at the exact date and time in a Date column for every item and subitem, or minutes, hours, days or weeks before or after it. It schedules each item for its own moment; in production tests actions fired 1.0-1.5 seconds after the scheduled minute, and the public promise is "within 30 seconds". It reschedules when the date changes, checks an "only run if" condition at fire time (for example, only if Status is not Done), and can send a webhook with your own payload to Slack, Make or any HTTPS endpoint. See how to trigger an automation X hours before a deadline.

Limits: three actions (change a status, notify a person, send a webhook); anything else has to go through the webhook. Offsets are presets, not free values. No recurrence. It isn't in the monday marketplace (monday declined the listing as too similar to existing apps), so you install it directly and monday shows a notice that it hasn't reviewed the app. For a handful of automations it costs more than Advanced Time Triggers.

Pick it if: lead times are short (5 to 30 minutes before a call or shift), SLAs are tight, your dates live on subitems, or you need a timed webhook.

Automation Scheduler (CarbonApps)

Good at: sweeping a whole board on a schedule. You define filter recipes (status plus date, number values, time tracking, inactivity, done or not done) that run daily, weekly, monthly or on demand, then action recipes using monday actions. Typical uses on its listing: daily scans for overdue work, cleanup, inactivity alerts. It's free and listed in the marketplace.

Limits: it doesn't fire at each item's own time. It won't send a reminder 15 minutes before a call stored on an item.

Pick it if: your need is "every morning, flag everything overdue", not "at this item's time".

Zapier, Make and n8n

They can read the board, wait or poll, and act in almost any tool, which helps when the action lives outside monday. The trade-offs are polling delay, more setup, and per-task billing on hosted plans. I cover precision and cost in monday.com vs Zapier vs Make vs n8n for date-based automations, so I won't repeat it here.
